About

Created in 2009, owner Jessica Pickens started Comet Over HollywoodTM   to express her classic film love and share articles about the films that shaped our society, pop culture and knowledge.

By trade, Pickens has a journalism background. Since 2009, Pickens has:

  • Interviewed actors James Best and Dolores Hart
  • Had a film column in North and South Carolina based newspapers
  • Covered the 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016 Turner Classic Movies Film Festival in Los Angeles.
  • Visited and reviewed classic film museums
  • Covered the Bernard Herrmann Festival in Washington, DC, in 2016
  • Covered the annual Autumn of Oz Festival in 2016
  • Covered the Nitrate Picture Show in Rochester, NY in 2017

Our Goal?

There would be no glamour and Rodeo Drive without Cecil B. Demille and Jesse Lasky’s barn-turned-studio that they bought in a barren Los Angeles in the 1913.

For me Turner Classic Movies is my education, silent movies talk and Joan Crawford isn’t what her daughter made her out to be in “Mommie Dearest.”

With a mix of classic movie and  journalism writing knowledge, a Comet Over Hollywood™ is still burning.

  1. Hello,
I am the Blog Administrator at Movies Unlimited, a mail order retailer of classic movies. We’ve recently started a blog (www.MovieFanFare.com) and I thought some of your posts would be of interest to our readers. Would it be possible to reprint one of your posts on our blog? We would naturally provide a link back to your blog and provide a short bio if you supply it. The only changes we would make to your content would be adding any links we deem relevant to provide information to our readers (ex – links to our retail website or Wikipedia). Please let me know what you think of all of this, and keep up the amazing work!

I look forward to hearing from you.
    Chris

  2. Hi there!

I just wanted to reach out and see if you might be at all interested in participating in an upcoming blogathon. From February 28 – March 6, my blog, The Kitty Packard Pictorial, is hosting The Jean Harlow Blogathon, in celebration of the actress’ 100 birthday, the release of a brand new book (Harlow in Hollywood: The Blonde Bombshell in the Glamour Capital by Darrell Rooney and Mark Vieira) and a new exhibit at the Max Factor Hollywood Museum.

I’m sure you’re terribly busy, but hey, just wanted to see if you might possibly be able to participate!

    Details are here: http://kittypackard.wordpress.com/2011/02/21/the-jean-harlow-blogathon-february-28-march-6/

    Wamest wishes,
    Carley 🙂

  3. Hi!
I am a bit worried as I am not getting any traffic on my blog on Sal Mineo for your Gone too Soon Blogathon. Is the address I listed wrong? I am a new blogger, portraitsbyjenni, and I did a blog a couple weeks back for Classic Film & Television Cafe’s Dogathon. That blog got a lot of nice comments. Thanks for any help you might be able to dish out! jennifromrollamo

  5. Greetings, Jessica. My name is Gary Cahall, and I’ve taken over from Chris Cummins as the site administrator for MovieFanFare.com. I’m working on our guest writer line-up for the rest of May, and it’s been a while since the Comet has graced our site. Would it be possible to repost one of your recent musical reviews–Happiness Ahead or The Helen Morgan Story, I was thinking–on MFF, probably on Tuesday, May 27? Please get back to me at your earliest convenience, and I look forward to hearing from you. Regards, Gary

  6. Just ran across your site while trying to find info about “Tars and Spars” (film). It’s amusing to me that you were unimpressed with Syd Caesar’s performance in the movie, when that’s exactly what set me searching. It’s a subjective world, but I want to continue reading your site because it probably has a lot to offer as I explore some of the movies you’ve taken the time to write about.

    Looking forward. Thank you.

    Jim
